The exhibition MIR Odyssey created by the Museum of the World Ocean is devoted to exploration of oceanic depths. The exhibition tells about underwater expeditions of the deep-sea submersibles MIR-1 and MIR-2, which submerged in various places of the World Ocean. Within the expeditions they examined the Titanic and other ships’ wreck areas including the battleship Bismark and the submarine Kursk. MIRs studied underwater inhabitants including hydrothermal vent fauna, submerged to one of the most unique lakes of the planet – Lake Baikal as well as made other amazing explorations and discoveries.
Today MIR-1, one of these two legendary submersibles, is displayed at the permanent exhibition Depth at the Museum of the World Ocean. As well, there is a model of MIR-2 gifted by James Cameron at the exhibition.
