Dear friends!
We are approaching an important jubilee date - the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the end of World War II in Europe.
That war changed the course of world history, the fate of people and the political map. Our people, together with our allies, resisted the powerful onslaught of the Nazi regime. At the cost of huge losses, we were able to withstand and win.
Victory Day, which preserves the memory of the heroic feat of the people, is celebrated in our country on May 9 as the most important holiday.
On this occasion, the Russian Embassy in Belgium and the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Brussels are launching a joint online project dedicated to this remarkable date, opening specialized sections on their websites.
The Embassy's website (link: https://belgium.mid.ru/vystavka-tass) electronically presents collections of photos from the war years from the collection of the TASS news agency and the Russian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents. Visitors of the section also have an opportunity to get information on awarding anniversary medals "75 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945" to the veterans living in Belgium.
We also invite everyone who wishes to pay tribute to the memory of Soviet prisoners of war and members of the Belgian Resistance Movement who died on the territory of the Kingdom (an interactive map of tombs is available at https://belgium.mid.ru/zahoronenia-voennoplennyh-i-partizan-pogibsih-vo-vrema-vtoroj-mirovoj-vojny-v-bel-gii).
At the same time, the Russian Centre for Science and Culture is launching its "Victory" portal (link: https://ruscentre.be/pobeda). Here you can take part in the action "Immortal Regiment without Borders", (https://ruscentre.be/en/pobeda/bessmertnyi-polk-bez-granic) get acquainted with the electronic exhibition of archival photographs (https://ruscentre.be/en/events/vystavki-posvjaschennye-pobede.html) and documents dedicated to the liberation of Europe, take part in literary and musical competitions "Remember Victory" (https://ruscentre.be/en/pobeda/pomnim-pobedu) and "Victory Songs" (https://ruscentre.be/en/pobeda/pomnim-pobedu).
Russian Centre in Brussels organizes premiere screenings of Gosfilmofond's films "The Golden Collection" (https://ruscentre.be/en/events/kinoklub-onlain-filmy-iz-zolotoi-kollekcii-gosfilmofonda.html) about the war in Belgium, released before 1949. This is a unique and largely unknown collection of films created by eyewitnesses.
